Choose movie difficulty and subtitle support for your level

Use a short sample to judge dialogue difficulty and choose between bilingual subtitles, English captions and vocabulary help.

Choose movie difficulty and subtitle support for your level

An A1 or B2 label alone cannot determine whether a movie suits you. Speech rate, accent, background noise, topic and familiarity with the story also matter. Use this guide to choose a starting point, not a definitive film ranking.

Test a short sample

Before a long video, watch a small section. Can you explain who is speaking and what they want? Does the English text resolve the difficulty, or is meaning still unclear? Choose clearer material if the situation remains confusing even with translation.

Start with enough support

Short conversations with clear visual context can be manageable starting material. Try Persian for the situation and English for the sentence form. This is a practical suggestion rather than a rule for everyone at a given level.

Move toward selective help

When you understand most dialogue, try captions plus unfamiliar-word help. The FilmLang demo lets you choose a study level and explains vocabulary support in its tour. A level setting is a study preference; an estimated placement result is not an official qualification.

Choose the next task from the difficulty

If vocabulary is the problem, practise phrases in context. If written words are familiar but hard to hear, use sentence replay. Change support based on performance on that task, not simply on videos completed.
